Past events
A key aspect of success for AION Diagnostics involves balancing our commitment to corporate social responsibility with the company's business objectives. The AION team chose an ambitious campaign for our lead charity fundraising event in 2006 - the Rottnest Channel Swim.
AION Diagnostics Charitable Foundation starts strong
AION Diagnostics set out with the mission to deliver the important message of the importance of early diagnosis of cancer in children. AION is pleased to announce the journey was an outstanding success. Members of AION's Senior Management Team volunteered their time, went beyond their comfort zones, and braved the worst conditions in the event's 50 year history to compete in the 20 kilometre open water Rottnest Channel Swim.

The Swim's supporting event, and AION's inaugural social event, the "Brazilian Goes Disco" fundraising cocktail party brought together key figures of Perth's business community for a worthwhile cause. A former patient and cancer survivor of PMH, 16 year old Ms Kristy-Lee Taylor spoke at the event about how early diagnosis saved her life, helping our plight to raise awareness. An auction of donated items from businesses throughout the Perth community helped raise funds well above all expectations.

The team is excited about the level of interest generated in the wider Perth community about our cause. With the establishment of the official AION Diagnostics Charitable Foundation, the AION Team is set for more success. AION was pleased to deliver the raised funds to Princess Margaret Hospital to contribute to cancer treatment and rehabilitation.

2006 Rottnest Channel Swim
Competitors of the annual swim set out from Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia across 19.2 km to Rottnest Island. With conditions sometimes being unpredictable the swim places great physical and mental demands on its competitors and can last as long as 9 hours. The swim was first conducted as an event in 1991 and has captured the imagination of the Western Australian public and ocean swimmers worldwide. This year the swim was held on February 18. AION put together a team of four swimmers from its senior management to take on what is one of toughest open water swims in the world.
The Beneficiary
As beneficiary for this years charitable event AION has chosen the following children's hospital because they have similar visions and aim to achieve goals congruent with AION. These include enhancing the lives of children through the early detection of disease and medical excellence in providing healthcare.
Princess Margaret Hospital for Children Foundation, Perth
The Princess Margaret Hospital is Western Australia's only specialist children's hospital, treating around 300,000 children and teenagers every year, from all over the state. From humble beginnings in 1909 PMH has been recognized for some time as a world-class pediatric facility. It accommodates young patients with a full range of illnesses and injuries from minor complaints to life threatening conditions such as cancer and cystic fibrosis. The PMH Foundation is an allied organization which raises funds to provide medical equipment and services for the Hospital.

I know the team have the mental strength, determination and dedication to complete any challenge they choose to undertake. This is a great opportunity to focus our efforts on a humanitarian cause.
Raphaela Varajao
When I heard about the cause that the AION swim was benefiting, I immediately put my hand up to join the team. As a healthcare professional, I realise the importance of children's health, and this opportunity to help was simply too good to pass up.
Joshua Mann
Being a triathlete, I am excited by the prospect of swimming in this iconic event. With the team being highly motivated and training very hard I see this as a chance to work as a team for a common goal and overcome the many challenges that will arise on the day.
Peta Matveyeff
I see the swim as being very beneficial in bringing the team together to achieve a common goal. Since it is being swum by senior management and organized by AION's interns, it provides an opportunity for the whole company to be involved in an exciting event.
